Experts in healthy living have offered value for money tips that parents can use to make sure that their kids stay fit and well.
Nicki Waterman and Amanda Ursell told The Sun that children who are overweight may dislike the competitive sports they do at school, but that parents can counteract this by encouraging the whole family to try new activities that are fun.
One option is to all take part in walking bingo, where all the participants look for certain objects, such as a person or dog, when out for a family walk and winner is named as the first person to get to their target.
Parents can also encourage kids to try new activities by ditching the lift or escalator and racing one another to the top of a set of stairs.
Those who like dancing may also want to take part in a dance-off, a free activity that can be done in the house.
Furthermore, Lucie Russell, director of campaigns at YoungMinds, said that kids should balance the amount of time they spend playing on the computer with physical activities.
